John Sinclair was serving ten years for handing two marijuana cigarettes to an undercover officer when fifteen thousand people filled this arena on 10 December 1971 to demand his release. Lennon and Yoko Ono played, alongside Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Phil Ochs, David Peel and Archie Shepp, with Allen Ginsberg, Bobby Seale, Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin speaking. Three days later the Michigan Supreme Court struck down the state's marijuana statutes as unconstitutional and Sinclair was released after 29 months. The night was filmed and released as Ten for Two.
