James J. Braddock, the Cinderella Man of North Bergen
1935
James J. Braddock Park, North Bergen, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Braddock had broken his hand, lost his savings and gone on relief, working the Hoboken docks between fights, when he took the world heavyweight title from Max Baer on 13 June 1935. Damon Runyon gave him the name Cinderella Man. He lived in North Bergen and trained in the county park a few blocks away, which now carries his name and a statue of him.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
