In-N-Out and the drive-thru
1948
Baldwin Park, California
Harry Snyder built a two-way speaker box so drivers could order without leaving the car, California's first drive-thru hamburger stand, opened the same year as the McDonald brothers' rebuild ten miles east. The chain has never franchised and still has essentially the same menu.
