Hovenweep, the towers on the canyon rims
1923
San Juan County, Utah
Larry Lamsa · CC BY 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
Ancestral Puebloan towers built on canyon rims and balanced on boulders around 1200, some aligned to catch light at the solstices through small ports. The name is a Ute word meaning deserted valley. The builders left within a century, probably in a long drought.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
