Officers had been calling the Simpson Street station house Fort Apache since at least 1969, after a desk lieutenant used the phrase on the phone while the building was under attack. By 1980 two thirds of the 94,000 people the precinct had served were gone and the station was close to the only building left standing on its block, so the nickname changed to Little House on the Prairie. A 1981 Paul Newman film carried the first name worldwide and Bronx residents picketed the production over it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
