World War I veterans incorporated this village in 1924. Within about two years Ralph Capone had pushed the founders out of town, stocked its speakeasies, put stills in garages and opened the Maple Inn as a brothel. Newspapers of the period called it a mystery town run by phantom men, and the nickname Caponeville stuck to it. Vigilantes eventually burned the gang's headquarters down and the operation moved north into Cicero.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
