Elkmont, the ghost cottages and the synchronous fireflies
1908
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Sevier County, Tennessee

A logging camp that became a summer colony of Appalachian Club cottages, then a ghost of one when the leases ran out and the Park Service let the buildings rot. Some have been restored, some deliberately left as ruins. Every June the synchronous fireflies here flash in unison and the park runs a lottery for parking.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
