Edward Hopper was born in this Greek Revival house on North Broadway in 1882 and lived in it until he moved to Manhattan in 1910. His maternal grandfather built it in 1858. Hopper held the title until his death in 1967, long after he had become the painter Americans reach for when they want to describe loneliness. It is now an art centre and museum open to the public.
