Cottage City, the town where the real case behind The Exorcist began

A 13 year old boy living in this town was the subject of the 1949 Catholic exorcism case that William Peter Blatty later reworked into The Exorcist. For decades the story has been pinned to a house on Bunker Hill Road in neighbouring Mount Rainier, which was never the family's address. Most of the rite itself was performed at a relative's house in St. Louis rather than in Maryland. Researchers identified the boy publicly in 2021, a year after his death.
