Charley Patton, the first Delta star
1929
Holly Ridge, Mississippi
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Patton played behind his head and between his legs fifty years before Hendrix, worked Dockery Farms, and taught or influenced almost everyone who came after him, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Brown. He sold well enough that Paramount sent him to Wisconsin to record. He is buried in a cotton field outside Holly Ridge, under a stone Skip James's royalties eventually paid for.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
