The Scottish merchant John Carlyle finished this Georgian mansion in 1752, the only stone Palladian house of its century in Alexandria. In 1755 General Edward Braddock used it to meet five colonial governors and plan the opening campaigns against the French in the Ohio country. Braddock's proposal that the colonies be taxed to pay for it went down badly and did not go away.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
