Beer Nuts
1953
Bloomington, Illinois
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A sweet-and-salty glazed peanut the Shirk family had been selling as redskins until a tavern owner started calling them beer nuts, at which point they registered the name. Still family-owned, still made in Bloomington, still the only thing most of the country knows the town for.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
