American Eagle Flight 4184 comes down at Roselawn
Roselawn, Newton County, Indiana
On Halloween 1994 American Eagle Flight 4184, an ATR 72 turboprop from Indianapolis to Chicago, was circling in a holding pattern in freezing drizzle when ice built up on its wings behind the deicing boots. The autopilot let go, the plane rolled over, and it hit a soybean field here at high speed, killing all 68 people aboard. The FAA issued eighteen airworthiness directives in 1996 for flying turboprops in icing, and a memorial stands at the site, kept by the local volunteer fire department.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
