The Vietnamese Buddhist Center commissioned sculptor Mai Chi Kim for a cast concrete figure of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara in female form, standing on a lotus and facing a pond crossed by a red bridge. Counting the base it reaches 72 feet, which puts it among the tallest statues in the United States and for a time the largest Buddhist statue in the Western hemisphere. The temple had already bought several smaller pieces from her before commissioning this one.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
