Synchronous fireflies at Congaree
Harry Hampton Visitor Center, Hopkins, SC
For two weeks each spring the males of Photuris frontalis flash in unison across the floodplain forest, one of only a few places on earth where fireflies do this. The park closes the road at dusk and admits cars by lottery. Exact dates are set each spring and shift with the weather, so check the park before travelling.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
