St. Peter's Fiesta
St. Peter's Square & Pavilion Beach, Gloucester, MA
A five-day Italian-American fishing community festival in Gloucester honoring St. Peter, patron saint of fishermen, centered on Seine boat races, a blessing of the fleet and the well-known contest of walking a greased pole over the harbor. Started in 1927 by Sicilian immigrant fishing captain Salvatore Favazza, it remains the city's largest annual gathering, held the week of the June 29 feast day.
