Society of Saint Anne Walking Parade
Bywater, starting near Poland Avenue, New Orleans, LA
The Society of Saint Anne is a costumed walking parade with no floats or bands, moving from the Bywater through the Marigny and French Quarter each Mardi Gras morning since 1969. Participants build their own elaborate costumes rather than riding on floats or catching throws. The parade traditionally ends at the Mississippi River for a ceremony scattering the ashes of deceased members.
