Where Hamilton opened
Richard Rodgers Theatre, Broadway, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A hip-hop musical about the first Treasury secretary, moved uptown from the Public Theater with a fifty-dollar-bill of advance sales behind it. It rewired what a Broadway hit could be, lottery crowds on 46th Street every night, cabinet meetings staged as rap battles, and the Treasury quietly shelving its plan to take Hamilton off the ten.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
