The Shawshank Redemption
1994
Ohio State Reformatory, Mansfield, Ohio

A vast Gothic prison, empty since 1990, that stood in for Shawshank, the cell blocks, the warden's office, the tunnel Andy crawls through. The reformatory was condemned as inhumane and was very nearly demolished. The film is most of the reason it still stands, and it now runs tours past the exact cell.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
