A student at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville walked to the front of the class in late October 2016 and froze, and a classmate told her she looked like a mannequin. They filmed a group of their friends holding still on and around a table, and Jasmine Cavins posted it to Twitter on 26 October. Within a week it was a national trend set to Black Beatles, and within a month the NBA, Michelle Obama and Paul McCartney had all done one. The Library of Congress filmed its own and wrote about it as an emerging folk tradition.
