Once a year, Sam Houston Race Park swaps thoroughbreds for dachshunds, running heats of wiener dogs down the track while costumed entrants and their owners compete for best dressed. The track has hosted it annually since the early 2000s as a family day alongside live racing. It remains one of the venue's most attended non-racing dates.
