East Texas' blueberry growing region celebrates its harvest each June in downtown Nacogdoches with a 5K run, a blueberry pie contest, and vendor booths along East Main Street. The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce has run the festival since the 1980s. Blueberries have been a regional cash crop since the mid twentieth century, when several area farms began commercial planting.
