Stoughton celebrates its claim as the birthplace of the coffee break with a downtown festival each third Saturday of August, featuring a coffee brew-off, an all-wheels car show, an arts and crafts fair, and a women's strength competition. The tradition traces to Norwegian immigrant tobacco workers on the city's Coffee Street in the 1880s and has run as a citywide festival for decades.
