College and club rowing teams from across the country race sprint courses on Mission Bay at the San Diego Crew Classic, one of the oldest and largest regattas of its kind in the United States. More than 4,000 athletes compete in roughly 140 races over the weekend, watched from Crown Point Shores and the surrounding bayfront. The event has run annually since the early 1970s and marks the traditional start of the collegiate rowing season.
