A woman stopped on Nashville's honky-tonk strip by two men with a microphone gave an answer so unrepeatable and so cheerfully delivered that it became the year's catchphrase.
Two brothers began printing show bills from carved wood blocks, and for a century the shop's blocky woodblock posters advertised everything that came through, the Opry, Hank Williams, Elvis, Johnny Cash.
A chair thrown from the rooftop of a six-storey Broadway honky-tonk landed a few feet from two police officers below.
Tubb opened a record shop and began broadcasting a show from it straight after the Opry went off the air, so the crowd walked down the street and kept going.
