The Meskwaki Nation hosts its Annual Powwow on the settlement near Tama each August, a four day gathering of dancing, drumming and traditional foods that traces back to the tribe's Green Corn Dance and was first formally named Powwow in 1913. It remains one of the longest continuously held powwows in the country.
