Franklin's Tree Lighting on the Square is the city's official kickoff to the holiday season, held on the downtown Public Square. A roughly 40 foot tree wrapped in about 30,000 lights is lit before a crowd of around 10,000, with live music and free photos with Santa. The tradition dates to 1999.
